Vote for Kali!

If you’re Canadian, and especially if you’re Torontonian, then you’ve probably heard by now of a new television show called Lake Shore. The producers have been holding auditions over the last few months to find eight people for a Jersey Shore-style show, north of the border. They’ve narrowed it down to 25 people and are taking online votes to decide the final eight.

Meet Kali Eliopoulos, one of the 25 finalists in the running for a spot on Lake Shore.

I love her look, which comes from a mixed Greek and Filipino heritage. Appropriately enough, we shot these pictures on the shore of Lake Ontario.

Follow Kali on Twitterjoin her Facebook Group, and most importantly, vote for Kali to be on Lake Shore! Voting started today and goes til September 3rd. If you vote, I promise to post more photos of Kali!

More from my hotel room at the Lord Nelson in Halifax, Nova Scotia. With the exception of the last photo, these were all lit with a bare SB-900 and a blue gel. Madison is visiting Toronto this week and I can’t wait to shoot her again.

The Blonde Bombshell

Meet Gillian.

Long story short: what you’re looking at here are two shots that were taken during a quickie ten minute photoshoot about 30 minutes before sunset on a super foggy evening in Nova Scotia. Despite the short shooting time, it took an epically long five hours to get to this point, during which we enjoyed not one but two ice cream cones, as well as insults from random passers-by on horseback.

I can’t make this stuff up if I tried.

For what it’s worth, Gillian told me before we met that she was out of shape and a bit rusty. If that’s the case, then I can’t imagine how good our photos will be when she’s in top form.

Adriana

As promised last week, here’s the remainder of the photos from my shoot with Adriana in Ottawa. We shot these in my room at Hotel Indigo. I had a tough time deciding which hotel to stay at and shoot in, as Arc The Hotel also had a great deal on, but I was worried that the rooms might be too small. I’d stayed at both hotels before, but I knew the Indigo a bit better.

Above: Adriana wears the most ridiculous yellow pants that I blogged about last year. SB-900 bounced off the wall behind me as I was scrunched up on the bathroom counter.

Above: SB-900 bounced off the ceiling after we pushed aside some furniture to reveal the hardwood floor.

Above: Backlit by the window and sheer curtains, no additional light sources.

Swimwear September: Stephanie

Array

Last week I photographed not one, not two, but three lovely young ladies in one afternoon. Like Shannon in the post below, Stephanie here is also not a model. But dig that crazy strawberry tattoo! This was her first time, so Steph was suuuuper nervous before the shoot. We had a smattering of spectators at our little beach in Oshawa, but she did just fine.

Tech details: Nikon D200, f/1.8, 1/1500 with an 85mm f/1.8 lens. My aforementioned 70-200mm lens was pissing me off too much with its soft results at the long end, so I shot fairly exclusively with the 85mm lens instead. Although I’m a lover of the soft, warm light at sunset, some compromises have to be made when I’m shooting three people in one day. Stephanie was photographed at about 3:30pm when the sun was still fairly harsh. For this shot I just turned her away from the sun and spot-metered off her face for a decent exposure.
