Kathryn M
I’ll wait a moment while you pick your jaw up off the floor.
Ready? Good. Meet Kathryn M.
She’s 16.
I’ll wait again while you regain your composure.
Are you back? Good. As you can probably tell, she’s had a bit of modeling experience before I came along, despite her tender age. This was a pretty simple shoot, all in all — we hit Crystal Crescent Beach in the late evening when the light would be best (although it’s always a crapshoot in Halifax) and Kathryn threw on a white shirt that I bought at Sears about 30 minutes before hand. She’ll be a big time agency model one day — mark my words.
Above, the golden rim on Kathryn’s face is from the late day sun, and the rest of her was illuminated with an AlienBees 1600 in a small umbrella, powered by the Vagabond Mini Lithium. Below, only glorious sunshine was used and nothing more.
Kathryn now has that shirt hanging in her closet… maybe we’ll put it to good use again one day…

Amy Kerr
This is going to get confusing.
Meet Amy. Amy from Halifax. But not this Amy from Halifax.
The Amy you see here is actress and model Amy Kerr. And funnily enough, I met Amy Kerr after she saw my shots above of Amy Morris. She liked them so much that she friended me on Facebook and we quickly set about planning a photo shoot of our own when I returned to Halifax in October.
A few days before we shot together, I was headed out to dinner with Marietta, who you might remember from these photos in a really furry dress. As I was waiting on the sidewalk for Marietta to finish work, a car pulled up and two beautiful ladies sat inside, chatting. The blonde in the driver’s seat looked familiar to me, but I couldn’t quite place who she was. “That kinda looks like Amy Kerr,” I said to myself, unsure because I hadn’t met her at this point and because of the strange lighting tricks the reflective windshield was playing on my eyes. I busted out my BlackBerry and pulled up her Facebook profile to see if I could match the faces, but the results were inconclusive. A few moments later, Marietta arrived and said, “Hey, that’s Amy Kerr!” They exchanged a wave and we troddled off to dinner.
When I finally got to meet Amy for realz, we spent an afternoon shooting in the confines of my hotel room at the Westin, making sure to put every element of the room to good use. The windows provided some particularly lovely backlighting as the sun lowered in the sky.
I can honestly say that I don’t know a better looking 31-year old than Amy, who has spent half her life acting in movies, TV shows, and commercials, including some appearances on Trailer Park Boys.
The thing that amazed me most was that Amy gave birth to a son just eight months before we did this shoot! She looked faaaantastic for being a new mom.
Lastly, the YouTube video below gives you a little behind-the-scenes glimpse into our afternoon.

More Kali
As of this writing, Kali’s in eighth place (out of 25 contestants) to be one of the eight stars of the new reality show, Lake Shore.
Here’s another photo of Kali to keep you motivated and voting for her!
Vote for Kali!
If you’re Canadian, and especially if you’re Torontonian, then you’ve probably heard by now of a new television show called Lake Shore. The producers have been holding auditions over the last few months to find eight people for a Jersey Shore-style show, north of the border. They’ve narrowed it down to 25 people and are taking online votes to decide the final eight.
Meet Kali Eliopoulos, one of the 25 finalists in the running for a spot on Lake Shore.
I love her look, which comes from a mixed Greek and Filipino heritage. Appropriately enough, we shot these pictures on the shore of Lake Ontario.
Follow Kali on Twitter, join her Facebook Group, and most importantly, vote for Kali to be on Lake Shore! Voting started today and goes til September 3rd. If you vote, I promise to post more photos of Kali!

The Blonde Bombshell
Meet Gillian.
Long story short: what you’re looking at here are two shots that were taken during a quickie ten minute photoshoot about 30 minutes before sunset on a super foggy evening in Nova Scotia. Despite the short shooting time, it took an epically long five hours to get to this point, during which we enjoyed not one but two ice cream cones, as well as insults from random passers-by on horseback.
I can’t make this stuff up if I tried.
For what it’s worth, Gillian told me before we met that she was out of shape and a bit rusty. If that’s the case, then I can’t imagine how good our photos will be when she’s in top form.
Swimwear from H&M.
Adriana
As promised last week, here’s the remainder of the photos from my shoot with Adriana in Ottawa. We shot these in my room at Hotel Indigo. I had a tough time deciding which hotel to stay at and shoot in, as Arc The Hotel also had a great deal on, but I was worried that the rooms might be too small. I’d stayed at both hotels before, but I knew the Indigo a bit better.
Above: Adriana wears the most ridiculous yellow pants that I blogged about last year. SB-900 bounced off the wall behind me as I was scrunched up on the bathroom counter.
Above: SB-900 bounced off the ceiling after we pushed aside some furniture to reveal the hardwood floor.
Above: Backlit by the window and sheer curtains, no additional light sources.
Swimwear September: Stephanie
Last week I photographed not one, not two, but three lovely young ladies in one afternoon. Like Shannon in the post below, Stephanie here is also not a model. But dig that crazy strawberry tattoo! This was her first time, so Steph was suuuuper nervous before the shoot. We had a smattering of spectators at our little beach in Oshawa, but she did just fine.
Tech details: Nikon D200, f/1.8, 1/1500 with an 85mm f/1.8 lens. My aforementioned 70-200mm lens was pissing me off too much with its soft results at the long end, so I shot fairly exclusively with the 85mm lens instead. Although I’m a lover of the soft, warm light at sunset, some compromises have to be made when I’m shooting three people in one day. Stephanie was photographed at about 3:30pm when the sun was still fairly harsh. For this shot I just turned her away from the sun and spot-metered off her face for a decent exposure.
