Throwback

July 2, 2011

Back when I was a teenager in the mid 90s, I bought a shitload of Rolling Stone magazines. It combined two things I loved: music and great photography. I’ve long since discarded those issues, but tore out all the best photos before they went to the recycling bin. I admired photographers like Mark Seliger, Peggy Sirota, David Lachapelle, and Herb Ritts, whose celebrity photos regularly appeared amongst the pages. In particular, I was drawn to many of Ritts’ monochrome and sepia photos of models like Cindy Crawford (this one is my all-time favourite). When I was toying with different looks for this photo of Justine, I stumbled upon a look that I thought suited it well and would fit right in with all those 90s images.
